Don Helms, Owner

Having grown up on a farm in Northeast Nebraska, Don is a “farm boy” at heart. Farm life and serving for 21 years in the Army helped to shape and develop characteristics in him that our clients value and appreciate including honesty, attention to detail, hard work, and common sense. When it comes to choosing the right window coverings for your home Don is an expert. He has an eye for helping you to select the style, color, fabric, and options to fit your style and your windows. If you are looking for commercial shades or a patio shade, you can rely on and trust him to make the best recommendations. Don is a Hunter Douglas Certified Installer with over a decade of installation experience. Because he installs most of our projects you can count on him to provide professional measures and installation every time. In his spare time Don enjoys spending time with his family, yard care, cooking, sports and his new favorite hobby, scuba diving.

Julie Helms, Owner

Julie grew up on a farm near Columbus Nebraska and, you guessed it, she and Don are married. She spent 8 years in the Army before completing her BS in Accounting degree. Julie, with over 25 years of expertise as an accountant and business consultant, specializes in nurturing small businesses from inception to success. Daily, she applies her wealth of knowledge to our team, continuously expanding her knowledge, understanding, and appreciation for the value of window coverings in a family home. Julie is often the first person you will see or talk to when you stop by or call. She wears more than a few hats and is always happy to help with whatever is needed. When she has free time she loves being with her family, cooking & baking, reading, flower gardening and, her favorite new hobby, scuba diving with Don whenever they have the opportunity. 

Farzana Amini, Showroom Coordinator

Farzana is a highly skilled design professional with a passion for innovative design solutions who is dedicated to delivering creative and customer-focused results to help you make your home even more beautiful! Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, she holds an associate’s degree in interior design and is on her way to completing her Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Real Estate and Entrepreneurship from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Farzana invites you to visit our showroom where she will meet with you to explore the many options available for your window treatment project, including drapery. She will also assist you in scheduling your in-home consultation and precise measure. You will appreciate Farzana’s keen eye for color and style and enjoy her friendly and fun personality. A multilingual communicator, Farzana is fluent in Dari, Pashto, Farsi, English, and Urdu, with some proficiency in Arabic. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, shopping, and binge-watching Netflix.

Miranda Engelkamp, Showroom Coordinator

Design is Miranda’s passion. With a sharp eye for color and a meticulous attention to detail, she’s here to guide you through the many options and color choices to perfectly complement your style for your window treatment project. An Omaha native and a Business Administration graduate from Creighton University, Miranda welcomes you to visit our showroom. She’ll listen to your needs, walk you through design possibilities, and arrange a consultation and precise measure with one of our expert designers. Miranda will also be there to help you set up the professional installation of your shades and assist with other questions you may have. Beyond her work, Miranda is married and the mother of two children, with two beloved dogs completing her family. In her free time, she enjoys making memories with her family, traveling, and soaking up sunny days by the lake or pool.

Larry Klein, Installer

Larry, a former MLB player for the Texas Rangers, is a Hunter Douglas Certified Installer who specializes in the professional installation of window treatments. With his 30+ years of experience Larry is an important part of our team, primarily installing our shutters and the really “high up” stuff! Clients trust and appreciate Larry as much as we do for his friendly smile, expertise, and professionalism.

Oliver, Official Greeter and Top Salesman

Oliver is our beloved showroom mascot as well as Don and Julie’s family pet. He welcomes our showroom guests most days, creating smiles and sometimes even receiving a belly rub or a special treat in return. People often guess that he is a Maltese or other similar breed, but he is actually a Coton de Tulear, also known as the “Royal Dog of Madagascar.” Cotons are immensely charming, intelligent, and always ready to play and have fun. Their coats are profusely white and as soft as cotton (or, as the French say, “coton”). As a breed Cotons love their “people” and Oliver is no exception. He is happiest when he is wherever Julie is hanging out.
